THOR CLOSED skid plate – Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid

THOR CLOSED skid plate – Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid

399,00  (IVA escl. / excl. VAT)

The original THOR for Tenere 700 is not compatible with the World Raid, so here are my creations for this fantastic bike.

Like all my skid plates, they are handmade in Italy, every single THOR around the world is hand welded by me.

When I develop a new skid plate, functionality is always the first priority, in particular protection and ventilation, in this case research and development has led me to create 2 separate products, one that focuses on better protection, one on better ventilation.

The open THOR was my first model for World Raid, but following a great demand I decided to develop a closed one, more in line with my previous products, to learn more about the differences and qualities of these 2 products, I invite you to take a look at the video on YouTube, which you can find below.

FEATURES

Materials

This skid plate is built in the best aluminum for this use.

I have been a tinsmith for 35 years, and I still do, working tens of tons of aluminum every year and I can say that I know this material well, which comes in different types, each suitable for specific purposes. This is the perfect type for this use, which I also use for rally motorbike tanks. Very hard, but which can be bent and welded without presenting drawbacks.

Weight

The open version weighs 3.1 kg, the closed one 3.2 kg.

Ventilation

The shape is designed to convey as much air as possible around the engine.

The World Raid is more “closed” than the other T700s, in the sense that the engine is less ventilated, the particular lean angles combined with the fin system of this skid plate allows you to recover around 3° of engine temperature.

Fixing brackets

To be mounted the skid plates uses 4 different fixing brackets which are made of 3mm thick steel and stainless steel.

Welds

The skid plate is externally Tig welded by hand with painstaking control of the success of this process. Internally it has reinforcements performed with Tig/Mig. The welds are large and visible, we do not remove them as we believe that functionality takes precedence. And, in a Rally or adventure bike, if well executed, visible welding is a touch of quality.

Each welding is done by me, I do not delegate to third parties.

Thicknesses

Our skid plate boasts a base, the one subjected to shocks, of 5mm while the walls are 3mm.

These are shims tested on our previous skid plates, which have proven to be optimal in terms of strength and weight.

Fixings to the frame

The skid plates boasts 6 fixing points distributed in an optimal way to cushion the blows.

Compatibility

NOTE: The listed compatibilities are based on customer feedback and not our own testing, we take no responsibility for any compatibility issues with after-market products of other brands.

Crash bar

The side panels of the skid plate have been redesigned compared to the first model, to make it compatible with almost all crash bars on the market.

Tested and compatible bars:

  • SW Motech
  • GIVI
  • CrossPro
  • Garda

If you have any questions contact me, from a photo I can probably tell you if a bar is compatible or not.

Aftermarket exhausts

Compatible with all aftermarket exhausts! With a doubt about the Arrows, which are not tested.

Central stand

Compatible with Yamaha center stand.

Difference between open and closed

THOR open version: Better ventilation, cheaper.

THOR closed version: Better protection, more beautiful and elegant.

In this video presentation I explain the skid plate and the difference between the open and the closed version:
