THOR, the skid plate I make for the Moto Morini X-Cape 650, is finally out in its updated 2024 version! This new version improves on the previous one in several ways, even though the first skid plate was already the most protective on the market.

Like the original version, this one is also sold with its frame, included in the price, making it the only skid plate for X-Cape in the world that is not fixed to the oil pan. The improvements of the 2024 version:

  1. The skid plate is now MIG welded internally and TIG welded externally.
  2. The new frame is made of stainless steel.
  3. Both the skid plate and the frame are lighter and more robust than the previous version.
  4. The fixing points between the frame and the skid plate have been moved, making them more robust.
  5. The skid plate comes already equipped with rubber protections and anti-vibration, eliminating noise and vibrations of any kind.

FEATURES

MUD BLOCKING GUTTER

The X-Cape doesn’t have a very good front fender, and when off roading in the mud we saw that the wheel shoots it directly at the radiator, filling it up.

This gutter solves the problem. The mud is blocked and sent back down, protecting the radiator.

HANDMADE WELDS

The previous version of this model was fixed with rivets, now it is entirely hand welded.

The internal welding is MIG, with large and robust welds for further reinforcement, while externally it is TIG welded, each weld is made personally by GpMucci.

VENTILATION

As you can see from the photos, the skid plate is extremely ventilated, especially where it is needed.

The tests performed have shown that the use of THOR does not cause an increase in the temperatures of the bike.

FRAME FIXINGS

Here is the strong point of this product.

It was not possible to fix the skid plate to the frame of the bike in a functional way, so I made a special one.

HANDMADE FRAME

The tubular steel frame is light but sturdy, it is fixed both rear and front to the frame of the bike, and is shipped already fixed to the skid plate.

It allows you to unload shocks on sturdy points of the bike, unlike market alternatives that are fixed to the oil pan, making them not very functional.

CATALYST PROTECTION

The skid plate is very long because in the development phase I realized that it would be smarter to protect the catalyst as well.

Leaving it exposed would have meant risking serious damage, but in this way all the exposed parts of the bike are safe.

This skid plate is constructed of the best aluminum for this use. The frame is made of steel.

I have worked sheet metal for 35 years, and I still do, working tens of tons of aluminum every year I can say that I know this material well. This is the perfect type of aluminum for this use, which I also use for the tanks of rally bikes.

The entire skid plate has a thickness of 3 mm.

In addition to this, the frame acts as an extra protection, not only absorbing shocks but also giving a greater thickness to the skid plate.
