Here’s my second THOR, The skid plate I made for the Aprilia Tuareg 660.

His first name was Shark, because while I continued to modify the first prototype, I created the side holes in the shape of gills, and the final result is similar to the face of a shark. But then I thought that giving a different name to each skid plate I make could get confusing as I go on to create new products, so here is simply the THOR for the Tuareg.

Like my first Thor, the skid plate for the Yamaha T7, this too is the result of hundreds of hours of work, from a first phase of design to the nights spent with aluminium.

The idea was to create a skid plate able to enhance the line of the bike and improve its protection compared to the original, and I think I succeeded.

MATERIALS

This skid plate is made with the best aluminum for this use.

Working tens of tons of aluminum every year I can say that I know this material well, which comes in different types, each suitable for specific purposes. This is the perfect type for this use, which I also use for the tanks of rally motorbikes. Extremely hard, but which can be folded and welded without repercussions.

WEIGHT

The skid plate weighs 3.85 kg.

At “full load”, therefore with brackets, protective pads and protection for the exhaust it reaches a maximum of 4.70 kg.

WELDINGS

The skid plate is welded externally with Tig by hand, with a meticulous control of the success of this process. Internally it has reinforcements performed at Tig / Mig. The welds are large and visible, I do not take them off as I believe that functionality takes precedence.

On a Rally or adventure bike, visible welds, if well done, are a touch of quality.

Each welding is done by me, I do not delegate to third parties.

Front part, the one most exposed to shocks, of 8 mm, base 5 mm, sides 3 mm.

VENTILATION

It offers ventilation that could only be overcome if the bike was without a skid plate, in addition to the holes, the upper part is open as it is safe from impacts.

The skid plate is completely fixed to the frame, avoiding dangerous fixing to the engine, and has a total of 6 fixing points.

The others are to be tested, write to me, that probably from a photo I can already tell you if they are compatible or not.

 


Aftermarket exhausts

We have not tested aftermarket exhausts yet, but given the size of the catalytic converter we believe all aftermarket exhausts are compatible.


Central stand

Compatible with Aprilia center stand.
